Dart is a unique game not needing much in terms of equipments, space etc. As a result there are a lot of people engaged in this game. The two most important equipments are the dart board and darts, the dart board being more important of the two.

In order to buy a dart board it is necessary to know the make and quality of different dart boards.

Primarily there are two kinds of dart boards, fiber dart boards and electronic dart boards. Fiber dart boards are primarily made of natural rope fiber-sisal, the fiber is compressed under huge pressure and bonded on a board. Once bonded the surface is smoothened with sandpaper and painted thereafter. Finally wires are bound to the surface of the board to indicate the number rings. There is a common misconception that fibre boards are actually made of bristles or hair from camels, pigs or horses but that is not true no board is ever made from actual bristles or hair.

There are certain factors that need to be taken into consideration before buying a dart board. First of all it is necessary to measure the space available for the dartboard. Plain boards consume less space than boards in a cabinet. A dartboard style needs to be chosen. Whether it has to be enclosed in a cabinet or hung on the wall needs to be decided. Next one needs to decide on the size of the target area. Different dartboards are different in terms of target area size. Traditionally Bristle boards have 13.5 inches area, whereas electronic boards have a target area between 13 and 15.5 inches.

Next it is needed to look into the darts. Bristle boards go best with steel tipped darts, and soft tipped darts are suitable for other types of dartboards. Last but not least is the look of the dartboard. Dartboards are available in different colors and designs, so finding one in accordance to the room’s decor should not be difficult.

However for all those who are very particular and would not compromise with the look, there is the relatively expensive option of dartboards that are custom made with specific designs and colors as per client’s requirement. While buying dartboards one may go for packaged ones as well which include along with the dartboard all other accessories like darts, hats, flights etc and might also include a cabinet.
